ARIDLL at the DAAD Ortslektorentreffen (Lisbon 2026)

ARIDLL Workshop at the DAAD Ortslektoren Regionaltreffen “Mitsprache: KI und Demokratie” (University of Lisbon | 28–31 January 2026)

Title: Augmented Reality in Language Teaching: Best Practices and Tools for Getting Started

ARIDLL took part in the 2026 DAAD Ortslektorentreffen at the University of Lisbon with an innovative, hands-on workshop delivered by Anke Berns from the University of Cádiz on behalf of ARIDLL, focused on the use of Augmented Reality (AR) in language education.

The session offered a practical introduction to AR as a powerful tool for language teaching, with a special focus on German and English as a Foreign Language. Through examples, activities, and practical suggestions, the workshop showed how AR enriched learning both inside and outside the classroom by creating a dynamic, multisensory learning experience where multiple skills and language areas were developed simultaneously.

The workshop combined a brief theoretical overview of AR in language learning with a practical phase in which participants explored AR applications developed by the speaker and her research team.

Participants had the opportunity to try out the applications directly on their own mobile devices, reflect on their pedagogical potential, and discuss how these tools could be adapted to different educational contexts.

The main objective of the workshop was to provide concrete, transferable, and inspiring ideas for designing learner-centred, technology-enhanced activities, while also encouraging new proposals for the future development of AR-based applications in the field of language teaching.
